JOB TITLE: School Caretaker /Porter
SALARY: £7.70 per hour (+circa £2,200 per annum)
CONTRACT TYPE: Temporary to Permanent
HOURS: Monday to Friday, 7:00 to 15:30, Saturday (term time only) 7:00 to11:00
MUST HAVES: Previous experience working as a Caretaker or Porter
Our client is one of Britain’s leading co-educational independent boarding schools, set in an attractive Rutland market town. Almost 800 pupils live on site 24/7 and are accommodated in 15 boarding houses, taught by two-dozen academic departments, and participate in numerous extra-curricular activities such as sports, music, and drama. The School has over 600 full-time and part-time employees.
The successful Caretaker/Porter will be required to:
*To assist in the preparation of School facilities for functions, lectures, meetings, concerts, lettings and examinations etc. as directed by the Head Porter.
*To assist in the above duties at weekends on a rota basis for which overtime will be paid. This will include Sunday working from time to time to assist with the School’s operational needs.
*To ensure the security of the buildings and property in general in all School areas (excluding Boarding Houses).
*To assist in the delivery and collection of cleaning equipment and furniture around the School as directed by the Head Porter.
*To clean and maintain porterage cleaning machines and vehicles, and to ensure the timely reporting of any defects to the Head Porter.
*To maintain the School at a high standard of cleanliness as directed by the Head Porter or their Deputy.
*To ensure that all designated cleaning areas are well stocked at all times.
*To collect and distribute all internal and external post around the School, on a rota basis.
*’Lock-ups’ are worked in addition to the contracted 39 hours, and are currently paid at a rate of £14 per hour for weekdays and £22 per hour for weekends, giving an estimated non-guaranteed additional earnings of circa £2,200 per annum.
Our client is looking for strong applicants with the following experience:
*Previous porterage experience/ experience in a similar role
*Previous cleaning experience
*Previous experience of lock up/security duties
*An understanding of COSHH and Health & Safety at work
*Full driving licence

The post-holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post-holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School s/he must report any concerns to the School’s child protection officer or to the Headmaster.
